A Natural Garden in Sussex
This property is nestled in a small village next to Brighton, amongst the Sussex countryside. The views beyond provide a tapestry of rolling fields and the ocean. The owner, moving down from London, wanted to sympathize and enhance on this fantastic location, by creating a garden that hinted and reminded him of the beautiful landscape beyond.
What started as a split level terrace garden, has been transformed into a gentle sloping hillside. By incorporating these natural formations within the space, it achieves a garden that works with and sits harmoniously in its location.
With the use of natural materials and organic shapes, it further distinguishes this garden to be one of natural beauty and a sense of belonging. The finishing on the paving material adds an element of contemporary styling, one that will work with the renovations planned for the house.
The planting in this project will be key to completing this garden and creating the desired effects. Dense planting around the fence line will allow the boundary to be lost between the garden and the view beyond. This allows the space to feel larger and more integral to the landscape. Grasses and perennials will cacoon the boulders, softening them into the bank and giving a matured and resident feel. The planting will be integral to achieving the brief and vision laid out in the plan.
Bespoke garden features include:
- Carefully constructed natural grass bank embedded with giant boulders
- Natural sawn finished sandstone
- Giant glazial and yorkstone boulders
- Wood for trellising and fencing
The construction for this garden was completed mid march 2013.
